HK-born pianist, Shirley is the prizewinner of the Japan-Hong Kong International Music Competition in 2012. Recent engagements have taken her to special performances at the annual International Day of Peace Ceremony, co-hosted by the United Nations & Peace International Foundation; concerts at Hong Kong City Hall, HK Museum of Art, the HK University of Science and Technology & “Art, Culture & Music at the Airport”.
Shirley attained her Bachelor’s degree from the Chinese University of HK & Master’s degree at the University of Cincinnati with full scholarship. Her teachers included Prof Eleanor Wong, Dr. William Black, Prof Jan Panenka, Prof David Gwilt & Helen Wong.
Shirley lectured and taught masterclasses at The HK Academy for Performing Arts, HK Music Institute and International Youth Cultural Arts Festival. She also served as an adjudicator in various competitions
She now is the Chairman of Hong Kong Musicians & Artists Association & Hong Kong International Music & Arts Festival

I have worked with many exceptionally talented people. Age is no factor as current one is 11 and helping me with my Calculus Homework! She speaks five languages, can play piano. harp. violin. He is just wonderful. They are if handled right

I'm so sorry for that kid. My daughter is almost that age but I would never even think of forcing her to train for anything every day for several hours. This is child labour to me! Children shouldn't do anything besides play! He will lack so many social skills when he will be older and in both cases, weather he won't succeed or will become a superstar he probably will drown in the pressure. Poor kid.
There are several very unreasonable assumptions in your comment based on bitter jealousy: 1)You assume he is FORCED. This is not the case. For example, MY kid demanded violin and begged for it when just 3. He NEVER had to be forced. Playing music is fun for him/ 2)You assume he has to practice for several hours. WRONG. His practice, bearing in mind his inborn abilities and absolute pitch (which your daughter does NOT possess), an hour a day is well enough to achieve that level by 3y 10 months. My kid. who played violin from 3, started piano at 6.2 and by 7.2 played Moonlight sonata really well, his practice never exceeded 2h a day, always voluntary. Your daughter will not be able to play this sonata at such level even after 20 years of 24h a day practice. 3) For this boy, it is his Lego, his play. His cognitive and music abilities are incomparable with your daugthers, her destiny is playing with dirt while this boy is destined to be with the best people on this planet, doing creative work and enjoying real depth of creativity, your daughter will serve him coffer and clean his shoes. 4) The forth assumption, about "lack of social skills", stems from your wrong assumptions about time spent practicing, well, it is 1 hour a day or so, your daughter wastes more time changing her dirty nappies. 5) he does not need to become a superstar, he will just realise his talents. 6) SOUR GRAPES.

@@ansir9710 So you did what you loved from early childhood! (archaeology is essentially playing in the mud digging for treasures!). He is also doing what he loves and has ability for. What I have achieved? An honours degree in art and design from the best art academy of Russia. An honours degree in classical animation. Illustrating books, paintng portraits for British aristocrats. Teaching life model classes. Love it. My eldest child graduated from Oxford university and is a lawyer. My other child draws exteriors for the best car brand in the world, my youngest has two adult degrees in violin and piano performance from age 10, never practicing for more than 3 hours a day, my husband is Phd and physics professor. So? My turn to cheer.

Unbelievable, not just that he can play the melody including the base notes, but that he has the emotional controls to be able to play in public at this level. Truly astounding!! 🙂

Amazing to see such strength in his fingers and hand and finger dexterity in one so young. Piano keys are deep and require some degree of finger strength just to manipulate them.

@@Justin_Lawyer-SH He is a very talented kid, who has a very positive mother and the most brilliant teacher, I don't think this piece took him a lot of hard work, his progress is and will be very fast. So it is for other kids who have perfect pitch and love for music and great teachers... it is a pity Western culture does not expect much achievement from children, just pretending than everything is "brilliant fantastic" without encouraging real excellence. I appreciate the meaning of what you said, I am not disagreeing :)
